The Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release series is an annual limited release from the Jack Daniel Distillery. This year’s release introduces a new expression from Tanyard Hill. If you’re standing at the Hardware Store and look straight up the hill, you’re looking at Tanyard Hill. For years we’ve known that it is a place that produces exceptional whiskey, but this is the first time we’ve called out Tanyard Hill on a bottle. This special whiskey rested at the top floors of our rickhouse there for nearly a decade. Our 2025 Jack Daniel’s Special Release is a unique opportunity to experience how our barrelhouses influence the proof and flavor of our traditional mash bill.
Our special Tanyard Hill release starts with a grain bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. We grind and ferment the whole grain, distill it in our copper stills, and then pass it through our traditional charcoal mellowing process. The Tennessee Whiskey distillate was first barreled in 2015 in new charred American White Oak barrels which intensify Jack Daniel’s signature notes of caramel and vanilla. These barrels were aged on the top floors of our Tanyard Hill rickhouse resulting in a complex, robust flavor that showcases our whiskey-making craft. Bottled at barrel proof, this special release exemplifies the versatility in proof that Tanyard Hill delivers.
